This is a high quality lithograph reproduction concert poster for the legendary Isle of Wight Festival held in 1970. This concert featured the Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Doors, The Who, Chicago, Moody Blues, Jethro Tull, Free, Emerson Lake and Palmer, James Taylor, Ten Years After, Procol Harum, Spirit, Joan Baez, Donovan, Melanie, Sly & the Family Stone, Leonard Cohen, Richie Havens, Joni Mitchell, John Sebastian, Mungo Jerry and many others still. Whew! Possibly the greatest single festival in history.
The historic 1970 Isle of Wight Festival was held on August 26 - 30, 1970. It was held on Afton Down, an area of outstanding natural beauty on the western side of the Isle Of Wight. It is widely acknowledged as the largest music festival ever, greater than the attendance of Live Aid, Woodstock and Rock In Rio. The Guinness Book Of Records has cited its attendance as 600,000, this is just above the organizers' estimate of 500,000.
This was one of Hendrix's last concert perfomances as he sadly died scarcely two and a half weeks later. Jim Morrison was soon to pass the next year, and he remains one of the most popular and influential singers/writers in rock history. The Who performed a blistering set including the entire rock opera Tommy, possibly the highlight of the weekend. Most of this festival has been released through bootlegs, official releases and films. This is a beautiful, classic poster with great graphics of a psychedelic drummer in muted pastel colors, one of my favorite poster designs. This wonderful high quality lithograph reproduction measures approx. 13 x 19" and is in mint condition. FREE handbills included!
